so at HOB yesterday [which was amazing... as you guys always are...] i was totally getting elbowed in the shouler mulitple times by the person next to me, which for some reason didn't bother me so much as lead me to muse throughout the concert if you all preferred fans that stand there and dance and are into it the entire time, or fans that stand there just transfixed [which, as i was tired, i caught myself doing more than once]... so, would you mind ending my musings?

Hi and thanks for compliments, glad you had a good time at HOB - a lot of us in the band felt that was one of our best-sounding shows in awhile, and it was very enjoyable on stage as well...
Regarding the "sitting vs. standing vs. dancing" debate... personally for me, that's a tough one... While I've always felt that a good Rock Show sound have everyone on their feet and grooving, it's a very Individual thing - some people dig being transfixed while others 'feel the spirit' and gotta move. But of course some other kinds of shows are meant to be enjoyed with a more casual, seated atmosphere.
The problem is when you get a band like us that plays Pink Floyd music (or Grateful Dead or countless others), which has both quiet, relaxed & mesmerizing moments - and conversely has loud rocking songs too - what's an audience to do? Lol... And as many of us get older (go figure that I say that today), it gets tougher to do the "3-4 hour standing marathon" that some shows require (which includes the time getting your spot & waiting for the show). Basically I feel that you gotta respect each other in the crowd... if it's a seated venue like a theater, a lot of times you gotta 'go with the flow' and stand or sit if the majority does that.
My pet peeve is the people who have front row seats and yet still stand up, even if the majority of the crowd behind them is sitting... to me, that's just plain rude - You got Front Row, for Chrissakes! lol...

another question got brought up!
My friend was wondering what would happen if he started obnoxiously yelling out "Money!" Liiiike some audience member did at I thiiink it was the Animals tour back in liiike 75... (sorry if the info's wrong, it's going from memory and I haven't checked said info in monnnths)
And that brought up the question in MY mind... have you ever had the urge to spit on some of the people who yell out requests?

And that brought up the question in MY mind... have you ever had the urge to spit on some of the people who yell out requests? Interesting questions! To be honest, if someone were "obnoxiously yelling" at you, how would you feel, lol? I do admit it is great to have the 'feedback' from the crowd, and in the right context, it's totally valid... but to have someone yelling at you when performing a quieter section of music can be very distracting. But part of being a professional musician is to block out that kind of thing and concentrate on the show. And as for 'requests', the nature of this kind of production (tributing Pink Floyd) dictates that we have our setlist already prepared and can rarely deviate from it... so I usually just smile and get back to concentrating on what I'm playing! And people usually are requesting 2 things - either a classic we almost always play (like Money) or some obscure tunes that rarely get played (like Obscured By Clouds). Have I ever wanted to spit on a fan, like Roger at Montreal in '77? No, not exactly spit, lol... but you would be surprised how often some overzealous fans can be very annoying. For instance, this past Saturday at HOB: There was this girl in the front right corner of the stage (from my vantage), in front of Mark, who kept creeping forward and in front of the crowd barrier, she looked a little intoxicated (maybe more than a little, lol) ... and I forget what tune it was (maybe Turning Away or Hey You?), but she was slapping/hitting the stage with her hand, loudly, and not exactly in time with the beat! People do this occasionally, and don't seem to realize how distracting this is... it was really bugging me, and I remember telling myself, "just ignore her". I couldn't help but hear it, and but also actually feel it thru the stage!... and in those fleeting moments, I even thought about calling over my roadie and asking him to run down front and have security tell her stop it. Fortunately for me, I was able to keep focus on my show... and then I noticed later in the evening that she must've 'pushed the boundaries' a little too much, as security had moved her back into the crowd more and not so close to the stage. One of the jokes we have in 'Dogs' - once in awhile during the final vocal section, I'll change the lyrics to ".. who was trained not to spit ON the fan" (instead of "in the fan").... I'm sure most of the other band members have similar 'annoying audience member' stories... hell, that one was just from our last gig, lol! Eroc

Is there anybody out there?
Hey I had front row in Canton a few years back and found it really difficult and I do mean difficult to stay seated throughout "The Wall". However, when the feeling moved me I would certainly stand for a few seconds while grooving.
Look forward to my next chance to See The Show!!!
