i thought this would be a good first post for me.
i love this album, it showed that Pink Floyd could write music with Roger. Yes i know Roger is an excellent song writer, but this album, for Me is their best.
David used a Steinberger guitar on most songs, including my favorite song from the album, On the Turning Away.
most of the solos sound just so amazing on this album.
I really suggest downloading or buying the album, it has some great songs, and excellent guitar solos

Some folks like the album, some folks don't like it. I like a few songs on it. On one hand there is "One Slip". A really good tune, IMHO. On the other you have "Dogs of War". IMO PF's worst song. For a change of pace you may want to buy the albums Obscured by Clouds and Meddle. OBC is probably the bands most under appreciated album and if you don't know about Meddle or haven't listened in a while, Wish you were here is playing the entire album at the House of Blues in Cleveland on Nov. 7th.
From one newbie of the forum to another--Welcome ;D

You know...I just realize I have never given Momentary Lapse a fair shot; I do not even own the album. That is pretty sad considering I consider myself a Pink Floyd nut! So, it is now on my purchase in the near future list! I know most of the songs on there and like "On the Turning Away", "Learning to Fly", "Sorrow", etc........but I also remember really disliking "Dogs of War". So, PULSE.....you've inspired me to give it a real chance. It's crazy that I haven't yet considering the Division Bell is one of my favorite albums ever! My Floyd-fondness is Roger based so the post-Roger stuff always seems slightly illegitimate to me as Floyd, but I got over that years ago........bc I realized it was only a name, and the other 3 were just as great and important to the band! Anymore, I can not pick between Roger, Dave, and Rick as my favorite contributor/member of the band.
So, thanks for the inspiration.
Also, you should def listen to Obscured and Meddle.....both EXCELLENT albums that obviously were the foundations of Darkside! Good call TE. Eric

...wow...I really like 'Dogs Of War', that's my #3 off that record (followed by One Slip & On The Turning, respectively), and I've been trying to get us to learn that one for quite a while...!!!
...I had no idea that that tune was as disliked as it was!
In my opinion, not their best record start to finish, but, I think it has some good tunes on it. Definitely worth checking out! ;D

Echoes and One of These Days are my 2 favorite songs. Even though i have not listened to it from start to finish, I guess i will have to do that. Anthony...

...then I guess this would be a good time to plug our November 7 House Of Blues show in Cleveland where we will be performing 'Meddle' in its entirety...

Fearless, Pillow of Winds and San Tropez ain't to shabby either. Especially Fearless the way WYWH does it.....always have loved their version of that song. Pillow of Winds is another fav of mine.......I'm gonna have to have a Meddle listen and soon....it's been a little bit. ...As I reach for a peach, slide a rind down behind a sofa in San Tropez.........DEF gonna have to give Meddle a listen soon. And Echoes is tied with Dogs (not of War) for my favorite Floyd song......so of course I'm gonna recommend listening to it start to finish.........AND listening to WISH do it too! Eric

Ok, I gotta chime in on this... AMLOR has some great songs, but for me personally, it really is on the cusp of being a proper Pink Floyd album, in that it basically features only David Gilmour & other session musicians, with Mason & Wright barely contributing but a handful of overdubbed parts, and not much other creative input into the songwriting & arrangements. It wasn't until Division Bell that Gilmour, Mason & Wright were a proper Floydian collective in the studio. In other words, IMHO, Momentary Lapse is a great David Gilmour solo album that's trying (sometimes a little too desperately) to be a Pink Floyd album. That being said, however, I do accept it as a Floyd album. (Hell, Gilmour could record a fart, call it Poot Floyd, and I'd get it... um, did I just say that out loud?) About Meddle and Pillow Of Winds, check out this great version of the tune from our Audio page, performed by WYWH at the Odeon on 12/21/01 - the 1st time we did Meddle live in its entirety - www.floydtribute.com/pillow.mp3Cheers - Eroc
