i was wondering after seeing you guys and girls last night.
Do any of you ever play non-standard guitar solos, or does one do all studio album guitar solos?
If you do, have you played any song like Comfortably Numb, or Dogs without using the studio album solos?

Speaking for myself, I *try* to, at least, stay w/in the framework of the "known" original solos, but, I'm pretty sure that I don't play any of 'em note for note, (except maybe 'Money' and, on a good night, 'Young Lust'). I know that I *never* get the solo in 'Have A Cigar' note for note, (although, before every time we play it, I go over and over it to try to get it right), but, I at least try to play it w/in the context and spirit of the original...to my ears, that solo is Gilmour doing his Albert King impression...as one who grew up on that stuff, I tend to veer off into King-land, w/ maybe a Clapton-ism or two, during that solo before findin' my way back to Gilmour-land.
However, on the other end of that, I base all my parts in 'Coming Back To Life' off of the live 'P*U*L*S*E' video version, (the audio/CD version is different, which, goes to show you that Gilmour himself doesn't play the same solo twice). The reason? I just like that one better.
;D
As for Mark, he's one of those smart guys that can actually notate/transcribe music, (and read it!), so, it seems to me on the other end of the stage, that his solos are probably more 'authentic', although, I know he lets his personality come thru, too.
Which, now would be the perfect time for him to chime in...
